          THIS WEEK'S SMQ TOP 25- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
SMQ went back to the drawing board for his Blog Poll ballot this week, resulting in minor changes.

Moving up: West Virginia, which leapt Alabama and UCLA courtesy of its steamroller effort against Pitt Thursday; Florida, for obvious reasons; Wisconsin, Michigan and Boston College, courtesy of Fresno State, Florida State and Georgia Tech's losses; and Virginia Tech, which took over No. 6 from Miami in the hardest decision of the ballot. SMQ watched Miami rock that V-Tech team three weeks ago, and yet analysis of the Hokies' schedule reveals a consistently dominating team that has had but one valley, whereas Miami has had several, and fewer peaks. It's not fair, but neither is holding back the team that's had the better overall season in the same division of the same league. Perhaps a rematch is in order - how come none of the extensive BCS at-large talk included Miami Saturday? The 'Canes are as deserving as Notre Dame, Auburn or Oregon, and maybe Ohio State, too.

And while he was at it, as long as it was moving ahead of Miami, SMQ figured Virginia Tech has been more impressive than fellow one-time loser LSU, too. So the Hokies slide on up into the Top Five.

Falling: Georgia Tech, which played well enough against a very good Georgia team to hold off South Carolina and Minnesota for the final spot this week.

SMQ imagines Oregon is higher on most polls, but it remains that Oregon didn't beat anybody special; the Ducks have no signature wins. The only team they've played still in SMQ's poll is USC, and the Trojans hammered them by 32 points. Only opponents Fresno State and Cal appeared in any SMQ polls this season, and those were two of Oregon's closest wins. Washington State posed some problems, too. Anyway, what is the hype on this team? TCU's win over Oklahoma is more impressive than any of Oregon's victories. Only the collapse against Arizona is keeping UCLA from the second PAC Ten slot.

 Anyway, ta-da:
