THE RAP SHEET
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Wherein SMQ chronicles eligibility-crippling issues, legal, academic, institutional and otherwise...

University of San Diego coach and former Michigan QB/NFL journeyman Jim Harbaugh, still reeling from ESPN Classic's Wednesday night airing of "The NFL's Greatest Games: 1995 AFC Championship," featuring approximately 45 replays from every possible angle of Aaron Bailey's dropped Hail Mary, has defiantly pled innocent to DUI charges from an October arrest:
University of San Diego football coach Jim Harbaugh pleaded innocent Thursday to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

Harbaugh's plea was telephoned to court officials by San Diego-based attorney Brian McCarthy, a technique allowed in misdemeanor cases. Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback, was stopped early on Oct. 30 in Encinitas after allegedly running a stop sign. According to court documents, Harbaugh refused to take a field sobriety test after he was pulled over.

Harbaugh recently completed his second year at USD, leading the Toreros to a school-best 11-1 record, the Pioneer Football League championship.
11-1? And the Toreros weren?t part of the I-AA Playoffs? Is the Pioneer League the I-AA equivalent of the WAC or what? Perhaps this inevitable snub is the root of Harbaugh's alleged - no conviction, he's pled innocent - drinking.

Meanwhile, down at the ranch, Mike Leach has drawn on his law background to suspend two wide receivers from the Cotton Bowl for violation of undisclosed team rule ยง 166.002. (A):
Texas Tech receivers L.A. Reed and Marquis Johnson have been suspended from the squad for violation of team rules, head coach Mike Leach said Wednesday.

Leach said the two are suspended from the Cotton Bowl Jan. 2 against Alabama and remaining practices leading up to the game.

Asked about their futures with the team, Leach said: "We'll find out in January. We'll revisit it in January.''

Leach declined to elaborate further on their suspensions.

During the regular season, Reed caught 11 passes for 136 yards, and Johnson had 13 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Reed's absence is more noticeable, however. The redshirt freshman from Conroe Oak Ridge broke into the starting lineup late in the season, earning equal time with former starter Danny Amendola at "H" inside receiver.
Oh, whatever will the Red Raider passing attack do? Production may even fall under 400 yards!
