THE HEISMAN TROPHY? IS THAT LIKE THE TROPHEE COMMEMORATIF MICHEL-BRIERE?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Argonaut:

n 1: someone engaged in a dangerous but potentially rewarding adventure

An apt description of 2001 Heisman winner Eric Crouch's bid to return to a football-like field with Canada's Toronto Argonauts, where he'll join current frostbitten, twelve-man, 110-yard, punt-on-third-down, rouge aficionados (they keep standings by a point system rather than wins and losses, too, blech) Andre Rison, Troy Davis, Michael Bishop, Robert Edwards, John Avery, Barron Miles, Craig Yeast, Danny Wimprine and Josh Harris, among other former notables of the great old American game.

Sez Mssr. Crouch:

"Football has never been out of my system," Crouch said. "It's part of who I am. It probably will never be out of my system."
[...]
"I want to prove to myself, most importantly, that I can do this," Crouch said. "I've believed all along that I could, and I won't let myself down. I've made up my mind that this is what I want to do and I won't settle for anything else."

Eric Crouch is aboot to help our organ-i-zation's offence, you betcha."

SMQ must admit: those are exactly the sort of rah rah, soul of the game, you just gotta want it more sentiments that melt his hardened purist heart, that lead him to say unto friends, "You know who could help the Saints if they signed him as a free agent...?" It's the same sentimental thinking that leds him last week to endorse drafting Garrett Mills, as if Danny Wuerffel never existed.

But he did exist. Oh yes - and may his brief, earhole-peeking stint on the Superdome turf serve as an everlasting reminder to fans of the dogged and undersized everywhere when we wonder why the Canadien, World and Arena "Football" Leagues with their demented ruled concoted for fans who'd rather be watching another sport exist in the first place.

Awwww....maybe all you need is a bigger field!

Good luck in Canadia, Eric.

And don't let the name fool ya - second guessing the phenomenal athletic feats and split-second decisions of college kids under extreme physical duress is for every day of the week.

AWWW!! The totally nicest people, like, ever!...

How much football does he watch? Dude's got insights on -everybody-, and by everybody, I mean everybody. Throw in some of the best writing in the blogosphere, and we're talking about a daily must-read.
- Burnt Orange Nation

SMQ starts to sound more and more like the Gregg Easterbrook of our ideal memories every day - whip-smart, systematic, omnivorous in his intellectual tastes and yet unafraid of the cheap joke.
- Every Day Should Be Saturday

Sunday Morning Quarterback is one of our favorite football blogs on the internet.

Just another hack writer who hasn't done one lick of research... - SOT2

...the pride of Southern Mississippi ever since Brett Favre turned into an ESPN soap opera, has the sort of prose knack that can keep you riveted to a preview about any one of D-IA's scrubbier members ... should be given gifts.
