CANADIAN MIGRATION WATCH
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Which former college hero moving to a football-like ogan-i-zation north of the border?

This week, it's one-time Georgia star and former SMQ Madden 2003 record-breaker Quincy Carter, who is taking the opportunity to do what he loves best ("which is to play football," or something strongly resembling it) with the Montreal Alouettes. He'll report to camp in May.

No word on whether Carter will engage in the dangerous but potentially rewarding venture of challenging Utah State grad and Quebec native Anthony Calvillo - who once passed for 6,000 yards in one season - for the Alouttes' starting quarterback job.

Other former notables drawing paychecks from Montreal:

• One-time West Virginia waterbug Avon Cobourne, depicted for some reason on his player page as scowling cartoon fowl rather than a human being;

West Virginia career rushing leader Avon Cobourne

- Boise State gunslinger Ryan Dinwiddie, the "best quarterback in Boise State Broncos' history, but only practice squad fodder for the Alouettes after a failed stint with the Bears and the Hamburg Sea Devils;

- Gator-killing kicker Damon Duvall, league scoring leader and still hitting 'em in the clutch: his field goal with no time on the clock forced overtime in the Grey Cup.

- The brother combo of ex-Georgia stars Robert and Terrence Edwards, who marked a team first by scoring a touchdown apiece on Sept. 2;

- Former all-PAC Ten cornerback Kelly Malveaux of Arizona, a 2004 East Division All-Star pick;

- Ex-USC blazer and underachiever Sultan McCullough, a recent free agent;

- Former all-C-USA Southern Miss defensive tackle John Nix, fairly productive in his first season;

- One-time K-State Heisman hopeful Ell Roberson, yet to show his athletic ability on the 110-yard turf;

- Standout Iowa linebacker Grant Steen, who, we are helpfully reminded, played in all four preseason games last season;

- Ex-Georgia Tech all-ACC wide out Kerry Watkins, catcher of four CFL passes.

Almost none of whom, it should be noted, are making much of a contribution. Carter, we should hope, will represent the States' superior brand of the game with more success.

Cobourne sure does look a lot different than when he was at WVU. Must be something in the water. Thanks for putting the info up. I haven't heard much about him lately.
