HEY PUNDITS, LEAVE THOSE KIDS ALONE
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Two better examples there could not be to illustrate SMQ's steadfast refusal to join in the obsessive, dead end conjecture of recruiting than Wednesday's posts on Everyday Should be Saturday and MGoBlog, a pair of perennial pinnacles of pragmatism and light as far as football blogs go, regarding two overwrought prep sensations.

First, EDSBS takes an earlier commenter's bait by posting what is allegedly the gayest possible legal picture of any college football player, ever, in the form of three toned young men on a boat in, um, revealing aquatic gear, one of whom bears a striking resemblance to Alpha and Omega recruit Casey Rick Jimmy Clausen. You may know Jimmy from such gaudy spectacles as Hair Gel and Hall of Fame: The Jimmy Clausen Commitment Story and Backlash: Just When You Thought You Couldn't Hate Notre Dame Any More..., and now from a (probably) Farked-up paean to pedophilia. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

And then we are treated to a link to a lenghty review of another person we do not know, who is not yet a high school senior, playing a video game? And how its results might possibly suit this young man for a certain school's conservative offensive philosophy? (if you're into that sort of thing, SMQ will be jacking up NCAA Football online his own self to dish out some schoolin' in mere minutes...minus the critics, unfortunately).

The only virtue of either of these "stories" is the impressively astute Seinfeld radar on EDSBS commenter "Gamecock Tony," who chimed in, "You are the guys who are taking the bread out of Jimmy’s mouth. You are putting Jimmy out of commission," possibly the ideal blend of pop culture saavy and nail-on-the-head assessment of the given situation coveted in any rhetorical device, and which will therefore be shamelessly appropriated by SMQ whenever dealing with Clausen - and, oh, will we be dealing with him for a very long time - in the future.

Jimmy's been watching you....you're just Jimmy's type.

Is it me or does this kid strike a resemblance to Ron Powlus?

In my defense, the Mallet video game update was really, really sarcastic.

And don't let the name fool ya - second guessing the phenomenal athletic feats and split-second decisions of college kids under extreme physical duress is for every day of the week.

AWWW!! The totally nicest people, like, ever!...

How much football does he watch? Dude's got insights on -everybody-, and by everybody, I mean everybody. Throw in some of the best writing in the blogosphere, and we're talking about a daily must-read.
- Burnt Orange Nation

SMQ starts to sound more and more like the Gregg Easterbrook of our ideal memories every day - whip-smart, systematic, omnivorous in his intellectual tastes and yet unafraid of the cheap joke.
- Every Day Should Be Saturday

Sunday Morning Quarterback is one of our favorite football blogs on the internet.
- State Fans Nation

Sunday Morning Quarterback is a killer football blog if you are a college football junkie. It is run by one of the most thoughtful, intelligent, and analytical writers in the college football blogosphere...The guy is thorough and detailed and provides a level of analysis you are not going to find anywhere else .

Just another hack writer who hasn't done one lick of research... - SOT2

...the pride of Southern Mississippi ever since Brett Favre turned into an ESPN soap opera, has the sort of prose knack that can keep you riveted to a preview about any one of D-IA's scrubbier members ... should be given gifts.
